After DYK hooks are approved, the nominations is closed and a hook is promoted to the prep areas, where it is scheduled and possibly workshopped. If you feel like doing that closing and promoting, this is the right place for you! Prep building, as it's called, is vital to keeping DYK's gears turning, and it allows experienced behind-the-scenes editors to exercise a little bit of quality control (in accordance with the wishes of the nominator and the community at large). This page will tell you what checks you need to make, and then walk you through the steps of promoting a hook.

If this is your first time promoting a hook, welcome to the fold! Be sure to read WP:DYKPBR to get a sense of the promoter's guidelines. Don't be afraid to make mistakes when you're starting out, and WT:DYK is where you can get answers to all your questions about the process.

Instructions[edit]

Automated[edit]

The automated method requires the prep set's half-assed workbench (PSHAW) – instructions on how to install it in your userspace can be found there.

  • Open the nomination page of the hook you want to promote.
  • Under the "more" drop-down menu (where you would move a page), select "PSHAW".
  • Choose, by inputting a number, which prep set you would like to add a hook too. Once you click "load prep/queue", it should generate the prep set and a list of hooks from the nomination page to choose from.
  • Pick an empty destination slot, a hook to send over, and an image if applicable.
  • Click "submit!".

Manual[edit]

Adding the hook to prep[edit]

  • In one tab, open the nomination page of the hook you want to promote.
  • In a second tab, open the prep set you intend to add the hook to.
  1. For hooks held for specific dates, refer to "Local update times" section on DYK Queue.
    • Completed Prep area number sets will be promoted by an administrator to corresponding Queue number.
  2. Copy and paste the hook into a chosen slot.
    • Make sure there's a space between ... and that, and a ? at the end.
    • Check that there's a bold link to the article.
  3. If it's the lead (first) hook, paste the image where indicated at the top of the template.
  4. Copy and paste ALL the credit information (the DYKmake and DYKnom templates) at the bottom
  5. Check your work in the prep's Preview mode.
    • At the bottom under "Credits", to the right of each article should have the link "View nom subpage" ; if not, a subpage parameter will need to be added to the DYKmake.
  6. Save the Prep page.

Closing the nomination page[edit]

  1. At the upper left:
    • Change , at the top or bottom.
  4. Save.

Rejecting a nomination[edit]

To close a nomination because it was withdrawn by the nominator or rejected by a reviewer, use PSHAW.
